IF I WANT TO WHISTLE, I WHISTLE
The past has its weight: twenty four years of dictatorship cannot but leave their mark on a people and their descendants. While Romanian filmmakers have been garnering international awards, the films have often been hard hitting, leaving the audience to face those scars head-on.
Whether it is “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days” (Cannes Golden Palm Winner) or this particular one, winning the 2010 Berlin Film Festival Jury Grand Prix and the Alfred Bauer Prize, the urgency present can generate a vibrant, intense experience for the viewer.
In this latest film, Silviu has an ardent desire to have had a very simple and normal life, almost at all cost. His living in a juvenile detention center does not facilitate that goal. He is five days short of being released… —>A
